WSRC Member passes

Post by L82fly » Sun Sep 29, 2024 1:07 pm

Guys,
Sorry to inform you but WSRC member and Longtime district VIII AVP Lester Barry passed away this past week on 9/25/24. Due to his wishes there will be no funeral or grave site services at this time but other memorials might occur at later dates? I personally knew LES since '84 and have many memories including but not limited to both of us getting our R/C wings at Westside the very same month and driving the WSRC instructors that drew the short straws absolutely crazy! Hope those guys rest in piece as we tested every last nerve they had :lol:

High Flight
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
– Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
“1941 sonnet written by war poet John Gillespie Magee Jr.”
