All Seasons Flyer 2025

Started a few years back as the 2020 Challenge this program now extends into it's 6th flying season with a few hard core individuals successfully flying every month since the program started! All you have to do is fly once every month during the year, sounds easy but has proven very difficult as many pilots can attest too!

I made the June flight by the skin of my teeth. I was afraid I missed my chance when we were mowing last week. The rain moved in again the next day. It's still pretty damp out there, but dry enough for a belly lander, which the Aeroscout became after the last crash. I should have known that I was in trouble when the wind shifted from the north to the south and started picking up as I was pulling in the gate. I had my old beater Aeroscout though, so I wasn't too worried. With the storm moving in, the wind higher up was all over the place. I struggled through a few laps around the field, fighting the wind the whole time. About the time I decided I should land, the wind started gusting hard and tossed that little Aeroscout all over the place.

Unfortunately, I had a nose first landing in the corn, instead of belly landing on the runway. The wind flipped it upside down on the final turn, just before crossing over the runway. It caught me by surprise and of course I pulled, when I should have pushed. That's the 2nd time that poor little Aeroscout has been thought that.

That was my first corn field recovery. I headed straight towards where I thought it had gone in and only ended up about 10 yards south of where I thought it should be. Since it when straight in, everything was in a nice little pile. The Aeroscout will live to fly another day. I won't retire it until it's more glue than foam.

I was even able to get a little weed eating done before the lightning started getting worrisome.

Two evenings of flying in row! It's been a while since that has happened. You couldn't ask for better flying conditions than we had this evening. Got the July flights in early, just in case. Although, hopefully, the flooding is over for the year.

July is done. Managed to get two flights in the evening of the 1st after doing some cleanup on the field. It sure feels good to get some stick time
in. Now if we could just get the rain to give us a break. I am ready for the normal Oklahoma hot dry stretch to begin. On to August now.

Besides the heat, August has had some great flying weather. It's only the 5th and I've had several good days of flying already. We've had a couple of light rains, but no flooding.

Finally got my August flight in. Tried at the beginning of the month and had a case of checking the control throws before take off error. They moved, just in the wrong direction. Once I repaired the plane, I had to wait until my eyes were healed enough after cataract surgery to make another attempt. Managed to get three flights on the repaired plane and two on my big escapade before a unscheduled downpour hit the field. Great flying day until then. Felt good to get some stick time. Big D came out and got a flight in too. Only 4 more to go !

My September flight is done. Yesterday went to the field to cut some grass and took my electric cub with one battery. Made a couple of circuits, a couple of landings, all good. I should have brought more batteries but was pressed for time. Only three more months to go!

My first September flights were made at the fun fly last weekend. We had some of the best flying weather of the year. Light winds and comfortable temperature. It would be hard to ask for a better day of flying. I wish more members could have made it out to enjoy it as well.
